These were destinations we had anticipated exploring for their cultural energy and regional uniqueness, but prudence and practicality persuaded us to keep moving.
Rather than meandering as originally planned, we pressed directly onward to Nashville, the musical heart of Tennessee, guided by the promise of urban energy and warm Southern hospitality. By the time we reached the city, the combination of appetite, travel fatigue, and excitement had set in, leaving us both ravenous and in desperate need of a refreshing drink. Our chosen first stop was White Limozeen — a rooftop sanctuary just steps away from the lively Vanderbilt University campus. The venue was nothing short of delightfully whimsical, a Dolly Parton–themed restaurant and bar where glamour met nostalgia in a pink-saturated ambiance that perfectly embodied its muse’s legendary spirit.
We opted to sit alfresco on the rooftop terrace, enjoying a panoramic view that prominently featured an enormous bust of Dolly Parton herself — an eye-catching symbol of both reverence and playful kitsch. With laughter drifting in the air and a gentle breeze carrying the scent of champagne and fried chicken, we decided to sample the establishment’s most talked-about treats: the signature champagne Jell-O shots, whose shimmering surfaces were artfully dusted with rainbow sprinkles. Next time around, I would happily return solely for its inventive cocktails and glittering rooftop views, while reserving dinner plans for The Pharmacy Burger Parlor and Beer Garden, a local institution where we later enjoyed what proved to be the most exceptional burger of our entire trip. This pairing — one stop for drinks and atmosphere, another for the perfect meal — seems the ideal way to balance indulgence and discovery on the road to and through Nashville.
