Additionally, it integrates information from any code repositories that the user has authenticated through Claude Code, creating a seamless bridge between conversational collaboration and technical implementation. Importantly, users do not need to limit themselves to implicit detection—if they prefer, they can explicitly specify that a message relates to a coding task. For example, rather than manually copying code excerpts or reproducing error logs, a user discussing a persistent bug in a Slack thread could simply ask Claude to investigate, allowing the assistant to access all the necessary contextual details directly.
This new functionality builds upon the foundation of the existing Claude app for Slack, which had previously functioned primarily as an in-app conversational assistant designed to handle natural language queries and general AI tasks. Consequently, those who already have the Claude Slack integration installed will not need to download or configure a new application. However, in order to fully utilize Claude Code’s advanced features, users must ensure that their associated Claude Code account is properly set up via the web interface, with their desired code repositories correctly connected and authorized.
The expansion of the Claude Slack app occurs only a few weeks after Anthropic’s recent unveiling of its Claude Opus 4.5 model—an evolution in the Claude family that brought significant improvements in reasoning, coding proficiency, and performance benchmarks. According to Anthropic, this newest model demonstrates superior capability in programming-related tasks compared to competing systems, including Google’s Gemini 3, which had drawn widespread attention in the AI industry due to its high overall benchmark performance. Despite these notable advances, Anthropic continues to face ongoing challenges in ensuring robust security and safety controls.
